Fairbanks Alpine Ski Club (FASC) getting busy.

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Alright Fairbanks, the Fairbanks Alpine Ski Club is getting ready to get busy this season. Their first club race will be this weekend. The race itself is not open to non-members, but there will be a post race clinic starting at 1PM that is open to the public, and non-club members. Are you an alpine skier, snowboarder, or telemark skier looking to get a little video analysis and on hill coaching, this may be for you. You can sign up in side the FASC Race Office from 11am-12:45, all ages welcome.

In other FASC news, the 2010 Town League Race Series starts February 20th. New this year are age categories and an end of the season awards banquet and raffle at the Fairbanks Creek Lodge on Sat. April 3rd. An information package can be downloaded from the Fairbanks Alpine Ski Club website.

Props to the Skiland grooming crew

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Despite the low snow year, the skiing at Mt. Aurora Skiland has been excellent this season. With very little to work with, our all-volunteer grooming crew has been doing an outstanding job. The bare spots are minimal, and every run is open. Willie’s Way and Walrus are looking surprisingly good and have been a lot of fun to ski. Fairbanks Ski Patrol thanks them for all of their efforts and hard work.

I know it has not seemed like a skiers winter Fairbanks, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Any day skiing, is better than a day working, or day spent laid-up on the couch dreaming of being outside.
