Although Fairbanks has been experiencing a snow drought this year, Mt. Aurora Skiland is open, and the skiing is much better than one would expect. We owe the good conditions to our all-volunteer grooming crew who have been doing an outstanding job keep us skiing and riding. Grooming crew, our hat is off to you.

Despite the low snow year, the skiing at Mt. Aurora Skiland has been excellent this season. With very little to work with, our all-volunteer grooming crew has been doing an outstanding job. The bare spots are minimal, and every run is open. Willie’s Way and Walrus are looking surprisingly good and have been a lot of fun to ski. Fairbanks Ski Patrol thanks them for all of their efforts and hard work.

I know it has not seemed like a skiers winter Fairbanks, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Any day skiing, is better than a day working, or day spent laid-up on the couch dreaming of being outside.

The FSP website was hacked on Jan, 7th. We are slowly getting everything running again with the goal of making the site better, and more user friendly, than it was before.

The Fairbanks Ski Patrol site was down for a few days starting Jan 7th thanks to a hacker. Said hacker took advantage of a security hole in the content management system we were using.

I am going to practice restraint in this case and not comment on how I feel about those worthless human beings called hackers. They get some kind of enjoyment out of destroying things for no good reason. Actually hackers do us a favor by showing us where the holes in our security are. I had been meaning to make the site more usable anyway, this was a good opportunity to do so.

Running (designing, publishing, writing for) this site, like everything else with the Fairbanks Ski Patrol, is a volunteer job. We are slowly getting back up, with a new design and some new features. We ask your patience as we get back up to full speed and look forward to seeing you on the slopes.

Until then, think snow, and ski or rides safely. We will look forward to seeing you at Skiland.
